Abstract

Sugarcane plants (Saccharum officinarum L.) is included as the largest sugar producing plants that classified into the Gramineae family. Sugar is one of the basic needs for Indonesians whose needs always increase from year to year as the population increases. This study aimed to know the response of growth of sugarcane plant bud chip seeds (Saccharum officinarum L.) PS 862 varieties in the provision of colored plastic hoods. The study design used was Randomized Block Design (RBD), using one factor, that was the color of plastic hoods consisting of 6 treatments. The first treatment (S0) without plastic hoods, the second treatment (S1) was given a red plastic hood, the third treatment (S2) was given a clear plastic hood, the fourth treatment (S3) was given a milky white plastic hood, the fifth treatment (S4) was given a blue plastic hood, and the last treatment (S5) was given a green plastic hood. Each treatment had 4 times replication. On the speed parameter of buds emergence , plant height, and number of leaflets showed a significant effect, and the best treatment was blue colored hood (S4). In item diameter parameter showed the results of significant effect and best treatment was the treatment without hood (S0). While the parameters that showed results which have no significant effect were sprout power.
