Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of bagging and type of material to the quality of the physical, chemical and level of pest attack on a banana. Each of buch were bagged with different materials starting from the first banana sheath has not been opened and the heart of the banana is start ducking. Four freatments studied were PO: Control (without bagging}, P1: Banan\a bagging in blue plastic polyethilen, P2: Banana bagging in transparant plastic polyefhilen and P3: Banana bagging in a sack of rice tied to the base of the stem 1/(ith a sheath of effort does not go into in bagging materials. Each treatment was replicated three times. Parameters observed were the fruit skin hardness,! total soluble solid, total titratable acidity, edible portion, the severity of the dissase, lenght of fruit, fruit diameter, age of harvest after application, and the weight of fruit per bunch. The results of this study indicate that the. bagging application vety effective for lowering the intensity and the percentage of severity of pest attack, but had no· effect on the fruit skin hardness, total soluble solid, total titratable acidity, edible portion, lenght of fruit, fruit diameter, age of harvest after application, and the weight of fruit-per bunch. Bagging treatment can redud,e the intensity of pest attacks by 20%, whereas the control treatment producefl the severity of the infestation of 84.81%. These. results indicate the importance of bagging to protect bananas from pests.
