Abstract

The research aims to study the influence of some concentrations of plant growth regulators (PGRs) on several different banana cultivars and the effect of its interaction with the genome multiplication, viable shoots and rooted plantlets capabilities. The experiment was designed as a factorial arranged in Completely Randomized Design. The treatments consisted of BAP (2.5 or 8 mg/l), IAA (0, 1.5 or 3 mg/l) and genotypes (Ambon Kuning/AAA, Mas/AA, Tanduk and Rajabulu/AAB, Kepok Kuning/ABB). The basal medium used in this experiment was MS. Results of the experiment showed that the capasity of explants to form shoots depended upon cultivar. Cultivar with "A' genomes such as Ambon Kuning (AAA) and Mas (AA) showed the highest rate of shoot multiplication shooVexplant upon treatment 5-8 mg/l BAP, whereas genotypes consisted of "B" genomes as Rajabulu (AAB) or Kepok (ABB) showed lower rate of shoot multiplication upon addition of the same concentrations of BAP. The cultivar Tanduk (AAB) showed the high proliferation but the lowest rate of shoot multiplication and tended to form noduls. Addition of IAA had no significant effects on the number of shoots. However, the shoots produced in treatments with IAA formed more roots and generally more vigorous than those produced in treatments without IAA
