Abstract

Food security is an effort to fulfill food needs for the community, both from animal and plant foods. The aquaculture sector in East Java Province has great potential as animal food, this shows the high role of the fisheries sector in food security in East Java Province. This study aims to describe the role of the aquaculture sector in food security in East Java Province. The method used in this study is a descriptive method by collecting data and information related to the aquaculture sector in East Java Province. The results of this study indicate that the availability aspect of the fisheries sector in East Java Province as seen from the level of production, exports, and imports has been met, with the level of aquaculture fish production in East Java Province of 8.69% of the national in 2022. The utilization aspect assessed from the level of consumption The fish consumption rate in East Java, has increased by 6% in 2023. The East Java Provincial Government needs to develop various policies to increase fish availability, such as infrastructure development, aquaculture training, and diversification of fish species with high economic value.
