Abstract

Translating a Book Entitled “Batuan Berkisah” Page 66–91, Dina Ayu Silih Kantinastiti, F31212367, 2025, 51 Pages, English Study Program, Politeknik Negeri Jember, Meiga Rahmanita, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Supervisor). Jember is a regency in East Java, Indonesia that holds a wealth of cultural and historical heritage. One of its distinctive cultural identities is the Pandhalungan culture, which blends Javanese and Madurese traditions. This cultural heritage shapes the language, customs, and everyday life of the community. Yayasan Studi Arsip Sudut Kalisat, a non-profit organisation located in the Kalisat sub-district, is dedicated to preserving this heritage through various activities such as exhibitions, archival work, and publications. One of its notable works is the book Batuan Berkisah, which tells the history of Kalisat through stories about its local rocks and folklore. The foundation is active in international events, but because the book was only available in Indonesian, foreign readers could not understand it. This translation project was carried out to address that problem. In this final project, the writer translated pages 66 to 91 of Batuan Berkisah into English. These sections contain significant stories that portray the spiritual, historical, and social life of Kalisat. The translation aimed to make the content accessible to international audiences while preserving the original meaning and cultural values. The process followed the translation model proposed by Nida and Taber (1982), which includes analysis, transfer, restructuring, and evaluation. The translation process was supported by several tools, including DeepL Translator, SDL Trados, Grammarly, and the Oxford Learner’s Dictionary. Once completed, the work was reviewed by the and proofreader and partner institution to refine its accuracy and clarity. This project is expected to contribute to the efforts of Yayasan Studi Arsip Sudut Kalisat in promoting the history and culture of Kalisat to a global audience, as well as serve as a useful reference for future translation projects.
