Abstract

Translating The Book of "Batuan Berkisah" Pages 42-65 Karimah, F31222317, 2025, 71 Pages, English Study Program, Politeknik Negeri Jember Meiga Rahmanita, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Supervisor) This final project aimed to translate pages 42-65 of the book "Batuan Berkisah" from Indonesian into English. Written by the Yayasan Studi Arsip Sudut Kalisat, the book narrates the history of Kalisat, Jember, through local stories about rocks and folklore. As the book was only available in Indonesian, this translation project was initiated to overcome the language barrier and help the foundation promote the local cultural heritage to an international audience. The writer used a four-step translation framework adapted from Nida and Taber (1969), consisting of analysis, transfer, restructuring, and evaluation. The main challenge was translating specific cultural terms and concepts that have no direct English equivalent, such as tapis kelapa, delik ati miber angin, and the phrase Kaline Sat!. To address this, various translation strategies were employed, including descriptive equivalence, transference, and modulation. To ensure the quality of the translation, the writer implemented a strict quality assurance process. This included using translation software (CAT tools), having the text checked by a professional proofreader, and incorporating feedback from beta readers. The project successfully translated 3,567 words from the assigned pages, providing valuable practical experience for the writer. This final translation is intended to be a reliable tool for the Yayasan Studi Arsip Sudut Kalisat to reach a global audience.
