Abstract

Along with the development of science and technology today, various methods continue to be done to improve engine performance. Motorized vehicles commonly used by the public are automatic with automatic transmission systems. There are several important components that greatly affect the increase in engine performance, namely drive pulleys and weight rollers. Generally, the angle size of the drive pulley and weight roller has various variations and sizes, so that its use is faced with two choices, namely acceleration or top speed. This study aims to determine the effect of using a drive pulley and weight roller which will later be applied to automatic vehicles. The method used is the experimental method of drive pulley with an angle of 13.8o with a box weight roller weighing 12 gr and a cylindrical weight roller weighing 12 gr and 18 gr. The results of the study showed that the torque value, when compared to the engine speed of 6500 rpm, the highest point of the torque value is 9.44 Nm with a variation of P13.8 RK12. Regarding the power value, when compared to the engine speed of 6500 rpm, the highest point of the power value is 8.5 Hp with a variation of P13.8 RS18 gr. This proves that the dimensions and shape of a weight roller greatly affect vehicle performance. This is caused by the roller part that is more aggressive in touching the wall on the variator (pulley) this can push the roller housing and v-belt so that it provides a better response to engine speed, this means that even at low gas the vehicle remains responsive so that engine performance increases. Using a higher drive pulley angle will make the acceleration faster and more maximal.
