Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of planting distance on growth and production of Pioneer Hybrid Corn (Zea mays L.). this research was conducted in September 2018 to January 2019 at State Polytechnic of Jember field, Tegalgede Village, Sumbersari, Jember. This research used Randomized Complete Block Design non factorial consist 4 treatments, T0 (planting distance of 65 cm x 16 cm), T1 (planting distance of 65 cm x 14 cm), T2 (planting distance of 60 cm x 16 cm) and T3 (planting distance of 60 cm x 14 cm). The result of this research shows that planting distance is very significant on plant height 21 days after planting, number of leaves 42 days after planting, the weight of seeds per cob, and weight of seed per plant. Planting distance of 60 X 16 cm (T2) has height of plant of 55.25 cm in 21 days after planting. Planting distance of 65 X 14 cm (T1) has number of leaves 11,27 per plant in 42 days after planting, weight of seed per cob and seed weight per plant - each of 95.62 gr and 120.76 grams. Planting distance of 65 X 14 cm (T1) is the best spacing treatment in this research because it causes increased seed production.
