Abstract

Cucumber ( Cucumis sativus L.) is type Vegetable crops belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family that originates from North Asia. However, cucumber seed production encountered due to the inbalance the male-to-female flower ratio, which have an impact seed yield and quality. The aim of this research was to know the effects of concentration and frequency of etephon application on production and quality of cucumber seeds. The design used was Randomised Block Design with 2 factors, etephon concentration (100,200, and 300 ppm) and frequency of application ( 1x, 2x and 3 x times). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and tested with the DMRT at a 5% error level. The results showed that the interaction between 200 ppm ethephon concentration and 2-times application frequency (K2F2) had a highly significant effect on the number of female flowers (13.47) and male flowers (6.53). A significant effect was also observed on the weight of viable seeds per plant (7.56 g) and potensi production per hectar (248,76 kg/ha).
