Abstract

Maize is an important crop commodity after paddy. The demand for maize from year to year is increasing as well as the human population grows, but the national maize production is facing slump production. The setting of plant spacing is one of factors that gives effect to the maximum production for crops, besides that the selection of quality seed and kind of varieties are also important in producing crops. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of plant spacing also the best combination of Syn 06 lines to the production and seed quality of maize. This study used non-factorial randomized block designed J1 (Plant Spacing 65 x 15 cm), J2 ( Plant Spacing 65 x 18 cm), and J3 ( Plant Spacing 65 x 20 cm). each treatment was replicated 3 times. J1 (Plant Spacing 65 x 15 cm) treatment showed the statistical result gave highly significant effect to parameter of per hectare production. J2 ( Plant Spacing 65 x 18 cm) treatment showed the statistical result gave highly significant effect to the germination parameter. J3 (Plant Spacing 65 x 20 cm). The treatment gives no significant effect to all parameters such as germination, the weight of 1000 seeds, plant height, stem diameter, seed weight per cob, and production of cob per hectare that is conducted in this test.
