Abstract

An industrial internship is an activity for students to learn directly in a company or other industry, and is expected to be a place to develop students' expertise and skills. This internship activity was carried out at the Depo Locomotive Sidotopo, Daop 8 Surabaya for 4 months starting from 07 August – 07 December 2023 and learned about turning wheels using a Type U-2000 underfloor lathe. At the Sidotopo Locomotive Depot, there is a wheel lathe whose job is to carry out maintenance on the wheels of facilities such as locomotives, trains, carriages and KRDI using a lathe which is specially designed for turning wheels. The wheels that are turned or re-profiled are usually wheels that have damage such as chipping, bumps and flange (-8) from the initial thickness of 30mm. The lathe used by the Sidotopo Locomotive Depot to carry out maintenance on rolling stock wheels is an underfloor wheel lathe type U-2000 produced by Hegenscheid Mfd-Germany and has been operating at the Sidotopo Locomotive Depot since 25 August 2005. The importance of wheel maintenance is aimed at minimizing possible dangers that occur when the facility is operating and also to provide comfort to passengers.
