Abstract

Composites are a new type of material engineered from two or more materials combined with different materials. The combination of these two materials is intended to obtain a combined result which is expected to mutually improve the shortcomings of the two materials. In this research, natural fiber combined coconut fiber and pineapple leaf fiber by weaving. The fiber volume fraction used is 30% with a comparison of variations in woven coconut coir fiber and pineapple leaf fiber, namely KN-1 (20% : 10%), KN-2 (15% : 15%), KN-3 (10% : 20%). The results of the bending test show that the KN-1 mixture variation (10%: 20%) has the lowest average strength value, namely 172 MPa compared to the KN-2 mixture variation (15%: 15%) which has a strength value of 236 MPa and the mixed variation KN-3 (20%:10%) have the highest strength value, namely 286 MPa. The results of impact testing show that the KN-1 mixture variation (10%: 20%) has the lowest average strength value, namely 0.0351 J/mm2 compared to the KN-2 mixture variation (15%: 15%) which has the lowest strength value. The average is 0.0678 J/mm2, and the KN-3 mixture variation (20% : 10%) has the highest average strength value, namely 0.1169 J/mm2. Based on testing of composites reinforced with coconut fiber and pineapple leaf fiber, the composite is still suitable for use in making motorbike front fenders.
