Abstract

The vanilla plant (Vanilla planifolia Andrews) is a type of plant from the Orchidaceae family and one of the orchid-plant families. Vanilla fruit products are often hated by customers because of their strong aroma. Apart from being used as campfire fuel for aromatherapy. Vanilla is also a commodity with economic prices and a fairly high foreign exchange contributor in Indonesia. Optimal vanilla plant breeding will produce quality vanilla fruit plants with maximum yield levels. Planting media is an important factor and the main condition for plant growth. The use of the right media will influence plant results, the use of the right media will determine the ability of the seeds to grow, the media used must be made of sturdy material, ventilated, free of weeds and disease, easy to obtain, porous and fertile. For good seedling growth. This research aims to examine the effect of various types of planting media on the seeding period for vanilla plants. The research method used was a non-factorial randomized block design (RAK) consisting of 6 treatment levels P1: Top Soil: manure: sand (1:1:1) (Control) P2: Top Soil: manure: husk charcoal ( 1:1:1) P3: Top soil: coffee husk compost: husk charcoal (1: 1: 1) P4: Top soil: coffee husk compost: husk charcoal (2: 1: 1) P5: Top soil: fertilizer coffee husk compost: husk charcoal (1: 2: 1) P6: Top soil: coffee husk compost: husk charcoal (1: 1: 2) on 144 vanilla plants. The results were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and tested further with 5% orthogonal contrast. The results of this research showed that planting media had a very significant effect on treatment1. In the number of leaves (strands) parameter for weeks 8-16, the contrast continued to have a very real influence on treatment 1 only. As well as the planting media which had a real influence on treatment 3 on the parameter of seed diameter (mm) week 4. Meanwhile in weeks 8-16 it had a very real influence.
