Abstract

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) is a type of grass that can grow in tropical climates. Sugarcane is also used by humans in everyday life. Along with the increasing population in Indonesia, the need for sugar is increasing. However, this increase has experienced obstacles where the area of land is decreasing. This research was conducted to determine the effect of several media comparisons with the addition of blotong on the growth of sugarcane seeds VMC 86-550 and HW varieties. This research was conducted on November 8, 2019 to February 28, 2020, which was located in the Jember State Polytechnic area. The experimental design used was a factorial randomized block design (RBD) consisting of 2 factors with 4 replications. The first factor is several media comparisons with the addition of blotong, namely R0, R1, R2, and R3. R0 is (control) top soil, sand, manure (1: 1: 1). R1 is top soil, sand, blotong (2: 1: 1). R2 is top soil, sand, blotong (1: 2: 1). R3 is top soil, sand, blotong (1: 1: 2). The second factor is the VMC 86-550 and HW varieties, namely V1 and V2. V1 is the VMC 86-550 variety. V2 is the HW variety. The observational data obtained were tested using the F test (ANOVA) and if the results were significant or significantly different, then the BNJ further test was carried out at the 5% level. Based on the results and discussion of the research, it can be concluded that the treatment of several media comparisons with the addition of blotong had a significant effect on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, treatment of two varieties had a very significant effect on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, number of tillers. The interactions in the treatment of several media comparisons with the addition of blotong on the growth of sugarcane seeds VMC 86-550 and HW varieties had no significant effect on all parameters.
