Abstract
The incident of returning to own request by patient is going home at the request of the patient or the patient's family before it is decided that he can go home by the doctor. Referring to the results of a preliminary study at Balung Regional Hospital known of the 10,441 patients discharged, 655 were discharged at their own request (6,3%) within one year. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the characteristics of inpatients and the incidence of selfrequest discharge at Balung Regional Hospital. This type of research is quantitative analytic with a cross sectional approach. This study used Checklist with proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The population in this study amounted to 10,441 files. The sample in this study amounted to 366 files, which were divided into 23 files of patients who returning to own request and 343 files of patients who did not returning to own request. The data analysis used was univariate analysis with frequency distribution tables and bivariate analysis using Chi Square test. The results of univariate analysis showed that most of the characteristics of patients is discharged inpatient, namely female, age with elderly category, not using insurance, low education, duration length of stay ≤ 3 days, using class 2 care room, not working, married, and having a history of noncommunicable diseases. The results of the bivariate test showed that the variables associated with patients returning to own request were source of financing (Sig = 0,046), education (Sig = 0,030), length of stay (Sig = 0,049), class of care (Sig = 0,014), and employment (Sig = 0,045). The variable not related to the patient being discharged at his own request was age (Sig = 0,759), gender (Sig = 0,828), marital status (Sig = 0,768) and type of disease (Sig = 0,225). It is hoped that this study can provide information related to patients going home at their own request, so that the hospital can provide education related to the impact if patients choose to returning to own request.
