Abstract

Cucumber is one of the most popular vegetables among the people. In last 5 years, cucumber production has flactuated. Therefore, it is necessary to make efforts to increase cucumber production. The cucumber is an interminate plant that will always carry out growth and development during its lifetime, so photosynthesis results focus on vegetative growth. So it is necessary to prune the shoots to reduce the absorption of photosynthetic products in vegetative growth so that the nutrients from photosynthesis will be concentrated on the development of fruits and seeds. The research was conducted in the Experimental Field of Jember State Polytechnic and Seed Technology Laboratory. The experimental design used was Randomized Group Design (RGD) with two factors; the first factor was topping with three levels, namely: at the 10th internode (P1), the 12th internode (P2), and the 15th internode (P3). The second factor is variety, with three varieties: Rujak variety (V1), variety (V2), and PMS variety (P3). Data will be analyzed using the F test (ANOVA) and continued with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) with a 5% error rate. The results showed that topping on the 15th internode had a significantly different effect on the best number of seeds per fruit with 236 seeds, seed weight per fruit with 4.77 grams and seed weight per hectare 149,80 kg. The treatment of the Timonop variety had a very significant effect on the age at which male flowers appeared at 21 DPA, the age at which female flowers appeared at 26 DPA, and the age of harvest at 49 DPA. The Rujak variety treatment had a very significant effect on fruit length 22.87 cm, fruit diameter 6.42 cm, fruit weight 354.09 grams per fruit, number of seeds per fruit 239 seeds, seed weight per fruit 4.88 grams, and seed weight per hectare 158.25 kg.
