Abstract

Motorized vehicles have increased every year. Some of the effects caused by the high number of motorized vehicles include pollution, congestion and fuel demand that soars high. The government has made efforts to overcome the increasing demand for fuel by developing bioefuls such as ethanol. Ethanol has a function as an octane booster where ethanol is able to increase the octane lift which has many impacts both for motorized vehicle engines and on fuel efficiency. This research was conducted to determine the most optimal concentration of motor vehicle fuel mixture with ethanol for motor performance and exhaust emissions. Based on the results of research on the performance of motorcycle engines using Pertamax fuel with a mixture of 0% ethanol (pure Pertamax) produces an average power of 18.9HP and 17.49Nm of torque, 5% ethanol an average of 19.7HP of power and 17.91Nm of torque, ethanol 10% averages 19.9HP power and 18.34Nm of torque, 15% ethanol averages 19.2HP power and 17.87Nm of torque. Injection fueled motors use Pertamax fuel with a mixture of 0% ethanol producing 1.87%VOL of CO2, 7.50%VOL of CO2 and 193ppm of HC, 5% ethanol produces 0.45% of CO2. %VOL, CO2 7.83%VOL, and 117ppm HC, 10% ethanol produces 0.22%VOL CO2, 6.96%VOL CO2, and 593ppm HC, 15% ethanol produces exhaust emissions gas CO of 0.02% VOL, CO2 6.00% VOL, and HC of 401ppm. The fuel mixture of Pertamax and ethanol that most effectively affects the performance of the combustion engine is Pertamax 95% and ethanol 5% with a power output of 19. 7HP and 17.91Nm of torque.
