Abstract

Electricity generated from Photovoltaic Solar Power (PLTS) is stored in batteries for use in powering water pumps in an aquaponics system. Aquaponics is a cultivation system that combines fish and plant cultivation, utilizing natural bacteria to convert fish waste into plant nutrients. The aquaponics system is environmentally friendly and contributes to the reduction of waste discharged into nature. The focus of this research is to test the performance of an Off-grid PLTS system as a power source for a DC water pump in the context of aquaponics. The objective of this study is to analyze the PLTS's performance in driving the DC water pump for water circulation in the aquaponics system. Using the standard performance test method IEC 61724, the results obtained from the PLTS Performance Test show that the Off-grid PLTS generates an average energy of 503.8 Wh, which is sufficient to support the DC pump in running water circulation for 20 hours a day. The daily energy consumption of the water pump is only 382.6 Wh. The Off-grid PLTS exhibits efficiencies with an average solar panel efficiency of 4.97%, a Solar Charge Controller (SCC) efficiency of 60.51%, and a pump efficiency of 79.91%. The energy loss in the solar panel has an average value of 5.29 kWh/kWp, while the energy loss in the system has an average value of 0.10 kWh/kWp, with daily solar irradiation of 7.8 kWh/m2. The Performance Ratio of 30.98% indicates the panel's ability to convert less efficient solar irradiation. Overall, these findings shed light on the performance of the Off-grid PLTS as a power source for the DC water pump in an aquaponics system.
