Abstract

Solar energy is a solution to meeting human needs for energy as a substitute for petroleum. A solar water heater is an alternative tool that utilizes new renewable energy sourced from solar heat that can be used to meet human needs for hot water. This study aims to determine the performance of SWH ST180LN in producing hot water and determine the efficiency value of SWH ST180LN. The research method used is a quantitative method, data collection during the research carried out includes solar irradiation, ambient temperature, water temperature in the tank, water temperature in and out of the tank, and current and voltage supplied by the electric heater. The results obtained from this study are SWH ST180LN can produce a maximum tank outlet water temperature of 53.1oC. The ability to absorb heat or energy collected in the system is 25.56 MJ per day or 9328 MJ per year. The average system loss coefficient is 1.55 W/m2.K, while the average tank loss coefficient reaches 1.60 W/m2.K. The ability of an additional heater (electric heater) to produce maximum tank outlet water temperature averages 53.9⁰C. The efficiency produced in the SWH ST180LN system research is 53.25%, while the ability to make additional heating efficiency (electric heater) is 67.60%.
