Abstract

Along with the rapid increase in population, can certainly the needs of the community in the transportatation sector as indicated by the increase in motor vehicle Efforts to reduce exhaust emissions in motor vehicles are utilizing natural materials that are widely available in Indonesia. Examples of plants used as samples are banana trees, the plants trunks are agricultural waste that is not widely known how to use them. Intake of banana stem fiber is done by cutting it with a size of 45 cm, so that it is easy in the process of taking fiber. This method is also done so the water content in the banana stem is lost. Banana stems are combed using a wire brush to separate the fibers from the particles in the banana stem. Fiber that has been separated and then dried in 2-3 days, drying without direct contact with sunlight. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of air filter devices with banana fronds to reduce exhaust emissions. The research method is use an experiment method. The sampling technique is use the Posttest Only Control Design Method. The research results obtained, bananas stem fiber to replace the air filter material on the motor can reduce exhaust emissions better at CO,HC,CO2 gas values. Lambda value of the 4 variations of the motor used can be seen the results of lambda lack of a level reduction from the exhaust gas test results after BFFR equipment was installed, but the decrease occurred at HC, CO, CO2.
