Abstract

This is the report of the final project entitled “Translating an E-Book Entitled Operating System Concepts Ninth Edition (Chapter 9, Page 430-463)”. The aim of this final project was to make the readers to understand the contents of the e-book. Based on the preliminary study that the writer did, there was some students of IT Department did not understand all the information from the e-book. They only understand several points of the e-book. In this case, the writer translated the e-book from English into Bahasa Indonesia as her final project. To finish this final project, the writer used the translation process proposed by Nida and Taber (1982) that consist of three phases such as analysis, transferring, and restructuring. In analysis process, the writer read all the text then analyzed the grammatical relationship and the meaning of the difficult words. Then, the writer tried to check in dictionary and searched to the internet by reading journals and online books. The writer also learned about parts of speech and tenses in order to understand the contents of the e-book. In the transferring process, the writer translated the text, but it was still in the writer’s mind. The writer took several techniques by Molina and Albir (2002), such as borrowing, literal translation, transposition, and calque. In the restructuring process, the writer wrote a draft of translation of the source text to the target text. Then, the writer asked a proofreader and the lecture of IT Department to proofread all the translation result. In making the product of translation, the writer found many difficulties. The writer translated in the middle of the chapter, so she should know about the previous topic discussed. The writer faced difficulty to analyze the content of the e-book. The writer confused when the appropriate translation technique used. However, the riter got lots of benefits. The writer got new knowledge of the grammatical structure, translation techniques, and new vocabulary. Finally, the writer finished in translating the e-book entitled “Operating System Concepts Ninth Edition (Chapter 9, Page 430-463)” from English into Bahasa Indonesia. This product was made in the form of Microsoft Word and Pdf format. This product was given to the lecturer of IT Department for supporting his teaching and learning activities and English Study Program.
