Abstract

Watermelon is very popular fruit in Indonesia because it has contain lot of water, crunchy, and sweet taste. The water content of water melon up to 92%, carbohydrate up to 7%, and vitamin. Watermelon is dry season plant, however the technology succed to make watermelon able to cultivate in every season. The level of watermelon concumption is increase every year in line with increasing of population. This research aims to determine the effect of harvest age differences and seed washing materials on viability of seedless watermelon. This research was conducted in September to December 2018 on Klompangan Suka Makmur Village , Ajung, Jember Regency and PT. East West Seed Indonesia at Basuki Rachmad Street, N0.19, Muktisari, Tegal Besar Jember 6812. This research was applied Randomized Block Design with 2 factors. The first factor was the differences of harvest age consisted 3 levels : 40 HST (U1), 45 HST (U2), and 50 HST (U3). The second factor was washing materials consisted 2 levels, chlorine (E1) and detergent (E2). The data was analyzed by using f Test (ANOVA) and followed by DMRT 5%. The harvest age differences treatment is significant on viability and water content however it is non significant on other parameters. The best treatment on parameter viability is harvest on 40 days after plant (60,5%) and for water content is harvest on 45 days after plant (6,59%).
