Abstract

Charcoal briquettes are solid fuels that contain carbon and have a high heating value. Raw materials that can be used as briquettes are biomass such as twigs, teak sawdust, agricultural waste. Potential raw materials used as charcoal briquettes from teak wood processing, in the form of teak sawdust by carrying out a pyrolysis process to reduce water content as charcoal raw material and banana peels as an adhesive material derived from the outer banana. In this study using carbonized teak sawdust and banana peels made as briquette material. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of the briquettes produced from teak sawdust and banana peels. The results showed that the entire composition of teak sawdust charcoal briquettes with banana peel adhesives in accordance with SNI standards. The best composition is JP 2 : 30 grams of teak sawdust charcoal and 13 grams of banana peel, with a moisture content of 3.53 %, ash content of 6.6 %, heating value of 5618.31 cal/g, density value according to the standard of commercial briquettes is 0.4567 g/cm3, and the compressive strength values ​​are not in accordance with the English briquette standards with a value of 4,1576 kg/cm2.
