Abstract

Mung bean is the third main secondary crop after Peanut and Soybean. It has economic value and source of vegetable protein, so it is necessary to improve the production of mung bean by maintain seed quality. Seed protection during storage by using the proper packaging type related to characteristic of the seed. This research aims to determine the effect of packaging type on seed quality and productivity of several mung bean varieties after storaged for 8 months. It was applied Randomize Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 2 factors and 4 replications. The first factor was packaging type, there were K1 (polyethylene thin plastic packaging), K2 (polyethylene thin plastic + sack packaging), K3 (control sack). The second factor was varieties, there were Vima 1 (V1) and V2 (Vima 2). The parameters were water content, growth speed, viability, electrical conductivity, height of plant, and dry weight. The data was analyzed by using f Test (ANOVA) and followed by DMRT 5%. The varieties treatment is significant effect on parameter electrical conductivity of 18,18 µmhos/cm/gr on Vima 2 varieties and height of plant on Vima 2 varieties 28 days after plant with value of 24 cm. The packaging treatment is non significant effect on all parameters. There is an interaction between varieties and packaging type on water content with average of 9,50% on Vima 2 varieties with polyethylene thin plastic + sack.
