Abstract

Air pollution caused by motor vehicle engine exhaust gases emits hazardous substances that can have a negative impact on human health and the surrounding environment such as the content of exhaust emissions, namely carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC). Efforts are made to reduce motor vehicle exhaust emission biodiesel which is an alternative bioenergy. Utilization of avocado seed oil as biodiesel feedstock can reduce exhaust emissions generated by diesel engines and reduce environmental pollution. This study aims to determine the heating value of biodiesel fuel and diesel engine exhaust emissions. Fuel is obtained by State Polytechnic Laboratory in Jember. The fuel is mixed with pertamina dex in the ratio of B-0 (100% diesel: 0% biodiesel), B-15, B-20, and B-50. Retrieval of data on exhaust emissions is carried out on the TF55R Yanmar diesel engine with 1800, 2000, 2600 rpm engine speeds. The results of the heating value of LHV and HHV with the addition of biodiesel, the heating value of the fuel is better than the pertamina dex fuel from pertamina company. In diesel engine exhaust emissions each gets a value on CO (0.020%, 0.021%, 0.024%, 0.025%), and HC (25 ppm, 19 ppm, 18 ppm, 17 ppm). In diesel engine exhaust emissions, B-15 fuel is better than other fuels in terms of HC content, while the best CO content in B-0 fuels.
