Abstract

B20 is a type of alternative fuel made from vegetable oil derived from various types of grains that are given a mixture of pure diesel fuel. The latest alternative to the B20 fuel mixture is polypropylene fuel. The use of polypropylene fuel for the B20 fuel mixture is very appropriate if used as diesel engine fuel, but the viscosity of the two fuels is quite high, this viscosity is a problem in diesel engines. To reduce the viscosity of the fuel it is necessary to provide heat treatment before the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber. This research was conducted in the state polytechnic of Jember, this research aims to increase torque, power and reduce the level of smoke density. In this study using a variation of mixing 80% B20 fuel + 20% polypropilene material with a heat variation of 35 ℃, B20 85% + 15% polipropilene with a heat variation of 45 ℃ and B20 90% + 10% polipropilene with a heat variation of 60 ℃. The results of this research are variations of 90% B20 + 10% polypropylene with 60oC heat variation having the highest power and torque values ​​of 9.9 (Kw) at 3570 rpm and 31.8 (Nm) at 2870 rpm, variation of 90% B20 10% polypropilene also has the best opacity value. The conclusion of this research is that preheating at B20 and polypropylene can increase torque, power and reduce the level of smoke density.
