Abstract

One of the efforts to compensate for the increasing demand for bitter melon seeds is by improving the cultivation system. The research aims to find out the interaction between the treatment of limiting the number of fruits per plant and toppings on the yield potential and quality of hybrid bitter melon seeds (Momordica charantia L.). This research conducted from September 2021 – December 2021 in the Research and Development land of PT. Wira Ago Nusantara Sejahtera Pare, Kediri. The research used factorial Randomize Complete Blog Design (RCBD) with 4 replications. The first factor is limiting the number of fruits per plant with 3 levels, they are 6 fruits per plant, 8 fruits per plant, and 10 fruits per plant and the second factor is topping, they are topping on the 15th segment, and topping on the 20th segment. The result have been analyzed using annova and continued with Least Significance Different (LSD) level of 5%. The reseach showed that the treatment of limiting the number of fruits per plant gave a very significant effect on all observation parameters. Treatment B1 (restriction of 6 fruits per plant) gave the best results on the parameters of fruit diameter with a value of 5.59 cm, fruit weight with a value of 589.98 grams, and the number of seeds as much as 22 seeds. The topping treatment did not have a significant effect on all parameters, except for the parameters of seed production per hectare. Pruning of shoots on the 15th segment showed better results than cutting of the shoots on the 20th segment. The interaction of the treatment of limiting the number of fruits and toppings had a very significant effect on the parameters of seed production per hectare. The best treatment combination was shown by B2P1 with a yield of 8.73 quintals/ha.
