Abstract

Watermelon is one of the most popular types of fruit, but watermelon cultivation in Indonesia is still lacking or limited so that it has not been able to meet domestic consumer demand.Efforts to increase watermelon seed production, by pruning shoots and the proportion of male flowers.This research was conducted on November 10, 2021 - January 15, 2022 at Farm Rowosari, PT. Asian Image Seeds of Jember. This study used a factorial randomized block design (RCBD) with 2 factors which were repeated 6 times.The first factor was shoot pruning (P) which consisted of 2 levels, namely, treatment without shoot pruning (maintaining the main stem) (P) and shoot pruning at the 5th segment (maintaining 2 branches) (P).The second factor treatment of male flower proportions (J) consisted of 2 levels, namely 1 male 1 female (J₁) and 2 male 1 female (J). Data analysis using the F test formula (ANOVA) and further test using (LSD) with an error rate of 5%. The results showed that the shoot pruning treatment had no significant effect on all observation parameters. The treatment of male flower proportions had no significant effect on all observation parameters. While the interaction of shoot pruning treatment (maintaining 2 branches) and the proportion of 2 male flowers (P₁J₂) gave a very significant effect on the parameters of fruit diameter (218.90), gave a significant effect on the parameters of the number of seeds per fruit (35 grains) and gave a very significant effect. on the weight parameter of 1000 seeds (54.79).
