Abstract

The fuel consumption in Indonesia is not balanced with the level of energy production. Henc, it leads Indonesia to look for energy alternatives by utilizing biodiversity in Indonesia, one of which is by producing bioethanol fuel from trembesi seeds (Samanea saman). Trembesi seeds are one of the vascular plants that have a fairly high carbohydrate content about 24.2% which is expected to increase the renewable energy. Trembesi seeds should be hydrolzed, fermented, and distilled to be used as bioethanol fuel. The experimental method involved several parameters, including the variation of HCl concentration (6%, 8% and 10%), the fermentation process (24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours), and the distillate rate in the distillation process. This study provided a fairly high glucose level value, especially at an 10% HCl indicating that this glucose level value would provide a good ethanol level value after fermentation with the help of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and distillation. The fermentation carried out in this study only reached the yeast growth stage with an interval of 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours. Samples from fermentation was distilled by heating to reach a boiling point of ethanol temperature, about 78.5oC to 80oC. This will affect the ethanol obtained and the distillate rate used in purifying ethanol from the mixture.
