Abstract

The contribution of the plantation sub-sector in 2019 amounted to 3.27 percent of the total gross domestic product. Barriers that usually become obstacles for farmers include scarcity of production facilities, extreme weather and pest attacks. Plant-disturbing organisms that always harm coffee plantations are fruit borer attacks caused by the insect Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari. Coffee productivity can be increased with more effective and environmentally friendly tools. This study aims to design a trap for H. hampei with solar panels. This tool is designed to 1) Can work automatically according to the existing settings on the solar charge controller; 2) can catch H. hampei pests effectively; 3) low current (DC) which is safe for farmers; 4) can be used in plantation areas far from PLN because the source of electrical energy comes from solar cells; 5) maintenance costs are relatively cheap, but the designed tools can operate in the long term; and 6) can operate even if the PLN electricity is off. The H. hampei trap uses solar panels as an energy source and is equipped with a stinger that works automatically by utilizing the solar charge controller feature. Functional test results show that the tools that have been designed can work well according to the plans made. The average consumption of the stinger is 23.70 Wh. The average energy yield is 26.85 Wh. The energy yield of the harvest has exceeded the amount of energy the stinger needs. The tool is designed to trap H. hampei well.
