Abstract

Translating a Book Entitled Quality Assurances for Animal Feed Laboratories on Page 58 until 78 for Students of Animal Husbandry Department, Cindy Lovely Fatikasari, F31151413, 2018, 71 Pages, Language, Communication and Tourism Department, Politeknik Negeri Jember, Adriadi Novawan, S.Pd., M.Ed. (Supervisor). The era of globalization gives a considerable influence in various aspects of life, especially in science and technology field. People now always follow the development of science and technology in various fields. These fields include economics, politics, and education. In the education field, the society get knowledge from various sources. These sources include textbooks, journals, articles, and scientific papers. Most of these academic sources are using foreign language, especially English. These academic sources used as learning media or additional material in academic institution, like Politeknik Negeri Jember. Politeknik Negeri jember has several departments. One of them is Animal Husbandry Department. The lecturers use some academic sources as learning mdia or additional material that in the foreign language, particularly English. One of them is an academic book entitled Quality Assurance for Animal Feed Laboratories. The students feel difficult to understand the content of the book, because it is written in English and they only cannot catch the whole information of the book. Therefore, the writer will translate a book entitled Quality Assurances for Animal Feed Laboratories on page 58 until 78 into Bahasa Indonesia in order to help the students easy to understand the content in this book. In translating this book, the writer applied the process and procedures by the expert. The writer adopted the process of translation theory from Nida and Taber (1982). Besides, the procedures of translation proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet (1958) in Hatim and Munday (2004:148). The process of translation consist of analysis, transfer and restructuring. Then, the procedures of translation are borrowing, calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence and adaptation. In translation, knowing the type of text is also important. By xi knowing the type of text, the writer can decide what are procedures that will be used in translating process. In here, the writer decide the type of text that would be translated is informative text. So, the writer used five procedures of translation from seven procedures. They are borrowing, literal translation, transposition, modulation and adaptation. During process of translating the text, in analysis stage, the writer found some difficult or unfamiliar words and phrases. The writer found the meaning by looking on dictionary and found some references in the internet. Then, the writer used five procedures to translate the text and provided the examples in each procedure. The writer asked the supervisor to read the translation result and gave suggestion and comment on her translation. In addition, the writer also asked the student of Animal Husbandry Department as proofreader on her translation result to make it better and become readable to the target reader. By doing this final project, the writer can enrich her skills, like vocabulary, reading writing and translating and the writer hope that this project can help the students of Animal Husbandry Department easy to understand this book.
