Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of detasseling time interval and the amount of leaf defoliation on the cob in female parents on the production and quality of hybrid corn seeds. This research was conducted in the seed production area of PT. Jafran Indonesia, starting from September 2021 - January 2022. This research was conducted using a Factorial Randomized Block Design (RCBD) consisting of two factors that were repeated 3 times, the first factor was the time interval for removing flowers in female elders (I) which consisted of 3 levels including: I1 = Plants aged 50 DAP, I2 = Plants 53 DAP, I3 = Plants 56 DAP. The second factor was the number of leaves left in the female parent (J) which consisted of 3 levels including: J1 = 1 strand, J2 = 2 strands, J3 = 3 strands. Observational data were analyzed using ANOVA variance and further tested using DMRT at 5% level. Based on the results of the study, it could be concluded that the time interval for removing flowers had a significant effect on the dry cob weight parameters and the number of seeds per cob. The treatment of the number of leaves left on the cob had a very significant effect on the parameters of seed germination and had a significant effect on the parameters of the number of cobs per plant, length of the ear, and number of seeds per ear. The interaction of the time interval for removing flowers and the number of leaves left on the cob had a very significant effect on the parameters of observing the number of seeds per ear, weight of 1000 seeds, seed production per ha, and seed germination. However, it had no significant effect (ns) on the parameters of observing the number of cobs per plant, length of the ear, diameter of the ear, dry weight of the ear, and the number of seeds per ear.
