Abstract

Communication is an inseparable part of humans. The existence of this communication can provide a good impact on the development of the world. One of the obstacles in communication is the difference in language. Among many languages, English becomes famous and expanded into almost all the fields such as science, technology, press and media, economy, business, travel and tourism, and education. In the field of education, having good English skills is needed and provides many benefits in today's era. Indonesia is one of the countries where the majority of their English proficiency is low. Based on the preliminary study, in Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember there is an Software Engineering Course which use English e-book during their learning process. The lecturer said that to ease the students to understand about the material, this e-book must be translated into Indonesian version. As the student of English study program, the writer decided to solve the problem faced by students of information technology department by translating an English E-book entitled ―Engineering a Practitioner’s Approach Seventh Edition that used in Software Engineering Course so that the learning and teaching process more efficient for students of Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember. To translate the e-book from English to Indonesian, the writer adapted the translation process from Nida and Taber. There were three translation process that the writer used, they were: analysis, transfering, and restructuring. The first is analysis, start with study the book content. This process is in order to find out what the original author was trying to convey. The second process is transferring, in this stage translator should transfer the message from SL to TL and find the exact equivalent. During the second process to find out the equivalence, the writer use appropriate translation procedures from Vinay and Darbelnet. Then, the last process is restructuring, the results of the translation text into a good target language. This step including the proofreading and revising the text. Afterwards, the target text were reviewed by the supervisor and the lecturer of Information Technology Department in order to know whether the target text is understanable or not. By conducting the translation as the final project, the writer gets some advantages for herself and others. The writer got a chance to know more about technology completed with the new vocabularies related to information technology. The writer also can improve her translation skill by translating an English e-book entitled “Software Engineering a Practitioners Approach Seventh Edition” by Roger S Pressman on page 215-275. Furthermore, after finishing this final project, the writer have suggestions for the lecturers and the students of IT department, for the students of English Study Program, and for the lecturers of English Study Program.
